This early reader is a collection of four short stories about a curious and caring bear named Baby Bear. It reminds me of the “Little Bear” series by Else Holmelund Minarik. In the first story Baby Bear finds a red rubber boot while fishing and he is determined to find the boot’s owner. In another tale, Baby Bear wants to show someone a beautiful flower without picking it. Baby Bear wants to protect a baby bird that fell out of his nest in the third tale. The final story finds Baby Bear without any friends to play with because they are all busy. Readers will be able to relate to Baby Bear’s problems and creative solutions in each of the short stories. The watercolor illustrations are so detailed that they could tell the stories without the words. This is a charming story for parents to share with children.
