The I Survived series by Lauren Tarshis is so popular that I was glad when some new survival books arrived at the library. If your child enjoys that popular series, you might try the Disaster Strikes series written by Marlane Kennedy. Blizzard Night had just the right amount of action and suspense to hold a reader’s attention. In this story, a family is traveling to a cabin in the Michigan wilderness. A cozy winter vacation is the perfect way for Jayden to get to know his new foster family. He wants to spend time getting to know his new siblings, Maggie and Connor, over mugs of cocoa in their cabin. Unfortunately, their family van crashes into the woods on the way and their father is injured in the crash. The three kids must venture out into a terrible snowstorm to find help. The blizzard is terrible and night is falling. Jayden, Connor, and Maggie will have to find shelter, confront an angry bear, and use their survival skills to rescue their father and stay safe.
