Did You Hear What I Heard? Poems About School

Did You Hear What I Heard?  Poems About School

Written by Kay Winters, illustrations by Patrice Barton

A delightful introduction to poetry for children, with a relatable theme: elementary school.  These poems cover all the basic school-day experiences: the bustle of breakfast and getting out of the door, the arrival at school, subjects, friends, teachers, recess, even snow days.  And the illustrations are wonderful.  Works for all cultures of children (–and all eras too!  I have been long out of elementary school, and these poems filled even me with nostalgia).  These poems are fun; parents will find them as easy to read aloud as any picture book.  Bonus: Children may enjoy reading along and enhancing their vocabulary by predicting the rhyming words.  Ages about preschool – to 3rd grade.
