Lucía is a daring girl who wants to run, jump, and play superheroes, but the boys on the playground ignore her and tell her girls can’t be superheroes. When her abuela (grandmother) sees how upset Lucía is, she teaches her all about the special superheroes called luchadoras, the female mask wrestlers of lucha libre (Mexican theatrical wrestling). Lucía wears the luchadora mask and cap her grandmother gives her to the park and soon all the kids are wearing their own masks and costumes. Through a courageous rescue, Lucía proves anyone can be a superhero!
This is such a fun story filled with fabulous cultural elements and a positive message. All of the sound effects make it a great read aloud book! The bright, colorful illustrations really convey Lucía’s vibrant personality. The characters are shown in dynamic poses and action-packed sequences. As a debut book for both author and illustrator, the picture book really packs a punch!
