This story of a service dog (Rescue) who helps a young girl (Jessica) after she loses her legs is based upon true events. In the beginning of the story, Rescue, a young black lab pup, is training to become a service dog. Meanwhile, Jessica, a survivor of an accident, is learning to walk again. Jessica sprits are lifted when she adopts Rescue as he helps her adjust to her new life without legs. Rescue learns how best to help Jessica. They do chores together, play together, and comfort one another. This quiet story is about courage, overcoming hardships and keeping a positive attitude. The authors, Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes were both injured in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and they have a service dog named Rescue.
