If you like adventure books, then this is the book for you! I really enjoyed this story of twelve-year-old Toby and his attempt to hike 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail that winds through the state of Maine. The reader soon finds out why Toby feels like he must complete the hike alone. He and his friend Lucas wrote a list of ten accomplishments they wanted to achieve. However, his friend is accidentally killed jumping off a rope swing into a quarry.
Toby is weighed down with guilt when he begins his adventure and he is totally unprepared to survive in the wilderness alone. He soon meets an unlikely traveling companion in an adorable mutt named Moose. Along the way he also befriends Sean and Denver, two hikers with way more experience on the trail than Toby. Readers will experience the dangers of the trail with Toby and enjoy watching him mature as he goes on a journey self-discovery.
