This fascinating book contains the biographies of 52 women who each achieved remarkable accomplishments. It is intended for readers ages eight and up. Each one-page biography is accompanied by a beautiful illustration of that woman. The biographies describe women from all walks of life such as mountaineers, rescuers, medical workers, aviators, and acrobats. I especially enjoyed reading about Annie “Londonderry” Cohen Kopchovsky who rode her bicycle around the world. Another fascinating woman was Junko Tabei, the first woman to climb Mount Everest and to also climb the Seven Summits (the highest point on all seven continents).
Many of the women contained in this collection will not be familiar to young readers. The women profiled in the book are drawn from the 19th and 20th centuries. I found this collective biography to be a very interesting read and I believe young readers will too.
